November 14, 2017 - I just entered a flash fiction contest. I kept in mind the goal of the foundation sponsoring the competition when creating this work of fiction: "to promote concord between different cultures, religions and ideologies." Regardless of the results of this entry, I'm proud of my submission. I can’t wait to share this.
November 1, 2017 - I have committed to #NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writers Month, a competition against ones self and the clock with the goal of writing a novel in the month of November. I have lofty #NaNoWriMo2017 goals: 1 solo novel and one collaborative project with a dear friend, Megan. Good luck to attempting #NaNoWriMo this year!
August 10, 2017 - I've been diligently pursuing my creative passions this summer. Recently, I entered a weekly flash/micro-fiction contest hosted by Ad Hoc Fiction and won publication in the weekly eBook. Click on that eBook link and tell me: Do you know which entry is mine? What's your favorite? I'll tell you which is mine when the judging period has ended.
I’m Sorry
Honey and I sat facing one another but not looking at each other.
Instead, both of us were fixated on a tiny black spot on the couch. That
semi-circle of nothingness absorbed us just like it did all the
colors of the visible spectrum.
Desiring truth, awaiting it, laboriously
forming stories and excuses in my head, my eyes radiated from that tiny black
spot to the red embers of the fire before us.
Before I knew it, my eyes drifted toward the
marble surrounding the fire. From the cold slab words began rising from the
blackness and the veins of the stone bled truth. Rather than drag things out
further, I turned to Honey and simply said, “I’m sorry!”
He looked at me. His cold dark eyes
reflected the flames then softened with the trails of smoke. He rested his hand
on mine, its warmth melting all enmity between us.

The Protagonist
I sat there for a brief moment paralyzed with fear. I didn’t
know if I had it in me today. For the last nearly 365 days I wasn’t sure I had
it in me. I was about to give-up, FOREVER!
Just as I was about to abandon all hope, I remembered that I
had to do this. If I gave up now, I’d only have failed myself. I had to do
this. I had to do it, if only for me. Yes, for me. For myself, not for anyone
else.
In that moment of revelation I gained lyrical clarity. No
fantasy seemed too far-fetched any longer. My imagination could finally run
wild.
Each letter, each word came faster and clearer. Each
sentence breathed life into the once dull, flat man until he was a perfect shadow
of a real man and everything I wanted my protagonist to be.
